Rory O’Connor LIPF

I have been involved in photography as long as I can remember. I hold a Licenciate (LIPF) from the Irish Photographic Federation and Artiste (AFIAP) from the world governing body of Fine Art Photography Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique

Photographing the landscape has always been my primary photographic interest. In more recent years I have tended to specialise with most of my landscapes are based around water with the majority of these are taken on beaches.

I love the challenge offered by seascape photography. From capturing the movement of water, the subtle but ever changing light, cloud movements and shapes, all incorporated in to the beauty of Ireland’s great landscapes. Every shoot brings a new perspective, even to old locations. No matter how many times I go back to a location the scene is always different and offering a new challenge for me to capture. One of the things that drives me on is the fact that there’s always a shot to be got. It may not be the one you set out to get, but there’s still always a shot

My first camera was a Kodak Hawkeye folding cartridge camera. I progressed to a Canon A1 SLR 35mm, but it was the move to digital that opened up a whole new vista of opportunities to me as a photographer. It gave me total control of the process from the time I press the shutter to the final print. These day’s I use a 36mp Nikon 800 with Nikon prime lenses.

I am also a member of Blarney Photography Club where I am Treasurer and one the club’s competition selectors.
